Tejate, a traditional Oaxacan drink made from maize, cacao, mamey seeds, and other ingredients all handmade is a labor-intensive preparation. And that's an understatement. From the hand-shelling of cacao and the grinding of the nixtamal to the serving, takes several hours.

Amazing amazing food. Real, authentic Mexican food. It was SO delicious. We were a party of 9 just leaving Legoland and were starving and had 4 kids. They got us a table right away...I will definitely be eating here again when I make another trip to Carlsbad!
The most amazing Oaxacan food in the area by far! must tries: tlayuda, chile relleno, margaritas, and mole. it is authentic and crafted on a personal level. everything is made with love and perfection.
On vacation looking for good authentic Mexican and found El Tejate. Everything was excellent the mole dishes, tacos, black beans and the in house tortillas. The flavors, depth of spices comes through in everything that didn't disappoint. Will be back.
Mole negro tamales are the *ish! Great twist on traditional Mexican food. Perfect if your palate already favors Mexican food and wants to expand its nationality. I recommend those to make an attempt to taste delicious and prideful entrees that are authentically from Oaxaca.
